COUNSELLING AND GROUPS

COUNSELLING

Counselling can enable us to grow through the pain and obstacles which hold us back; it allows us to explore and discover more about who we are. Within a confidential and respectful relationship it becomes possible to share experiences and parts of our personalities which have been hidden. Once we begin to understand and accept the different aspects of ourselves, we find we are more able to live in greater harmony and to experience life differently.

The counselling process may be short or long term depending on the person’s needs. Most people attend on a weekly basis as this allows a consistent and trusting relationship to develop. Evening or daytime appointments are available.

Workshops can offer a taster for people who want to experience the benefits of working creatively for themselves. Some who participate will go on to join therapeutic groups or attend one to one therapy. Others may decide to undergo further training to develop their own skills to use in their work with people. Workshops can be made available to organisations or groups of interested people by request.

Groups usually run for a set number of weeks and enable much deeper personal exploration and a greater variety of experimentation with materials and activities. Most groups are ‘closed’, meaning that the same people attend for the duration of the group, promoting a greater sense of safety and trust.

The groups may have a different focus; for example, some may be aimed at personal development; other groups may concentrate on the needs of a particular client group such as issues around childhood sexual abuse, or disability.
